Goals and KPIs for electrical contractors, with the assumptions written down

The goal: Finish jobs on time and on budget, keep every crew safe around energized equipment, and keep code knowledge current.

We agree three to five goals with you, each with one KPI. Every KPI is written out: what it measures, the record it comes from, the period, where it stands today and the assumptions behind the number, plus the guardrails that mustn't get worse while you work on the goal.

What it looks like for electrical contractors

The KPIs, cards and questions below are examples of what we set up with you. The names and units are made up.

KPIs, with the assumption behind each

Labor hours vs estimateHours booked against the estimate, per job.Assumption: From weekly time cards; travel time included.
Safety training currentElectricians with current lockout/tagout and electrical-safety training on file.Assumption: Training older than the company's refresher interval counts as lapsed.
Meters in calibrationTest meters with a current calibration date.Assumption: Calibration interval taken from the maker's recommendation.

Cards on the work tracker

  • Refresh lockout/tagout training for the two new apprenticesSafety lead · due Thu · Crew B
  • Send the overdue meters for calibrationTool room lead · due Wed · Meters 4, 9
  • Re-forecast labor on the warehouse job after the panel changeProject manager · due Fri · Job: Northgate warehouse

Records you already keep

  • Job-cost and labor reports
  • Lockout/tagout procedures and training records
  • Tool and meter calibration lists
  • Material orders

Assets in the register

  • Meters and testing equipment
  • Electricians and their licenses

Questions your team can ask Bifrost

  • Which jobs are over their labor estimate, and by how much?
  • Whose safety training lapses in the next 30 days?
  • Which meters are past calibration?

Bifrost answers from the records in your own workspace and shows how each number was worked out.

How it runs

Goals and KPIs, step by step

  1. Start from one goal or decision that matters this quarter.
  2. Pick one KPI for it, from records you already keep.
  3. Write down the definition, the period and every assumption behind the number, so anyone can check it.
  4. Set the guardrails, then review the numbers with us every week.

The barriers this crosses

  • Intent: Why do I need AI at all? We start from the person's own goal, decision or task and show what changes for that goal, in their words.
  • Use: What exactly would I use it for? We name the specific uses by role and by industry: the decision, the calculation, the plan, the brief.

Rules and facts for electrical contractors

What the records have to show

  • OSHA's lockout/tagout standard requires employers to establish an energy control program, with written procedures and employee training, for servicing and maintenance where unexpected energization could cause injury.Source: 29 CFR 1910.147, The control of hazardous energy
  • The National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) is revised on a three-year cycle, and states and cities adopt editions on their own schedules.Source: NFPA 70, National Electrical Code

Questions

Common questions

Can it hold our safety procedures?

It holds the actions and records around them: who's trained, what's due and which job it's for. Your written procedures stay where you keep them, linked from the cards.

Why write the assumptions next to each number?

Because a KPI people can't check is a KPI people stop trusting. Each number in your Console shows the record it came from and the assumptions behind it, so a manager and a dispatcher or foreman read it the same way.

We don't have clean data. Can we still set KPIs?

Yes. We start from the records you have and write down what's missing as an assumption. As the records get better, the KPI gets better, and the review tracks that too.

What does Watch Tower cost for electrical contractors?

Founding 10 covers setup and the first 3 months in one payment, then a monthly price; the numbers are on this page and on the pricing page inside the demo. Hardware implementation is quoted separately.
